Keeping bugs at bay and chores still to do

Friday morning and I can't get my engine started. Last night friends popped over and we retired for drinks on my BIG balcony - now accessible because I have a table and chairs (thanks to the help of chums). The biggest problem was the bug brigade that appeared from nowhere and persisted in hanging around our sugary drinks. My solution - cupcake covers. Worked like a charm - probably everyone does this but I like to think it's one of my own ideas (ha!). My other solution is to hang little bottles of sugary water to lure insects to a watery demise. I usually try to get them out before they actually drown as I don't hate the little buggers except when competing with them over food and drink.

Still have the Rast dresser to put together. It's so blooming heavy! Need castors for the bed to lift it up a few inches, dirt for my little herb garden (chocolate mint and lemon thyme along with parsley and chives so far). I plan to secretly infest the empty lot beside my building with the chocolate mint - mint loves to roam and can take over a piece of ground faster than you can say toast (okay, I exaggerate a bit). Goodness, I'm already tired thinking about all I have to do - just the thought of actually doing physical labour does me in.

Mother Nature has taken over the empty lot and there are a few wild flowers (Queen Anne's Lace, chicory, dandelions) and a lot of weeds (thistles over 6 feet tall) and a few trees which makes it very nice to look at from the balcony but at street level the lot is covered with cigarette butts. Come on, folks, take it home - those butts get into our water systems and pollute rivers and lakes. Someone should bring back 'silent butler' ashtrays - some were small enough to fit inside a purse.

Do I sound cranky this morning??
